The Era of Biognostic Machinery Contemporary biotechnology is creating instrumentation that generates data about people and other living things, in molecular detail and with genomic breadth. Managing, analyzing and interpreting this enormous flow of complex data presents significant challenges to computer science. In this talk, I will introduce some of the more significant data types, describe some of the challenges in analyzing this data and interpreting the results, and outline some of our approaches to those challenges, using techniques from statistical learning theory, semantic database integration and natural language processing.
